Horizon Open 2009 Table-Tennis Championship to be held in Myanmar

YANGON, Jan. 12 (Xinhua) -- Horizon Open 2009 Table-Tennis Championship will be held at the Kyaikkasan Gymnasium here later this month to make the table tennis sport becoming more popular in the country, according to the Myanmar Table-Tennis Federation (MTF) on Monday.

Aimed at improving Myanmar table tennis sport and for the emergence of new generation players, Horizon Open 2009 Table-Tennis Championship, jointly organized by MTF and Horizon Sports Academy, will be held on Jan. 24-25, the MTF said.

The two-day table-tennis championship will include men's U-13, U-16, U-19, U-50, first class open and second class open as well as women's U-13, U-16 and open individuals events, it said.

States and Divisions levels and amateurs paddlers can participate in the men's second class open event, while Myanmar old and present selected players in the first class open event, it added.

Myanmar table-tennis team competed in the last 24th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Thailand in December 2007 and did not get podium finish in the biennial event.
