Uruguay, Chile draw 2-2 in World Cup soccer qualifier

MONTEVIDEO, Nov. 18 (Xinhua) -- Uruguay drew 2-2 with Chile on Sunday in a World Cup qualifier at the Centenario Stadium in its capital Montevideo thanks to a goal from Sebastian Abreu 10 minutes before time.

The player of the match was Chile's Marcelo Salas, who was called up after a two-year absence, scoring two goals in under 11 minutes.

Luis Suarez scored the opener just before half time. Both teams have four points from three games.

Chile's goals were the most spectacular even though Uruguay had more overall control of the ball in the match. Salas's first goal came from a diving header converted from a Carlso Villanueva cross.

Salas converted a penalty in minute 70 after Uruguay's captain fouled Chile's Matias Fernandez.

Argentina's Sergio Pezzotta was the referee.
