Bolt becomes ambassador-at-large of Jamaica

WASHINGTON, Nov. 12 -- Olympic champion and sprint superstar Usain Bolt was named an ambassador-at-large by Jamaica Prime Minister Bruce Golding during a ceremony in the capital, Kingston, on Thursday.

The Triple world and Olympic champion also received a diplomatic passport.

At 23, Bolt is the youngest person to receive the honor.

Last month, he received the Order of Jamaica. His homeland has also renamed a highway after the lanky Olympic and world 100 and 200-meter champion and record-holder.

"This is a big thing for me and I will try to do my best and will live up to your expectations," Bolt told Golding after accepting the document.

Golding praised Bolt as a role model who can continue to make Jamaica proud.

"We have a great athlete, a great icon, someone who can help to strengthen Jamaica's image right across the globe," Golding said.
