Japanese MSDF destroyers ready for Somalia

The two Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force (MSDF) destroyers heading to Somalia get ready to leave their base in Kure, Hiroshima prefecture, Japan, on March 14, 2009. Two Japanese MSDF destroyers departed Saturday from their base in Kure, on an anti-piracy mission off Somalia, marking Japan's first overseas policing action under the Self-Defense Forces (SDF) law. The dispatch of the warships was ordered by Defense Minister Yasukazu Hamada on Friday under the maritime policing action provision of the SDF Law.
