Official: Nigeria to host the best U-17 World Cup
LAGOS, Jan. 28 (Xinhua) -- Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Sani Ndanusa, had pledged that Nigeria would stage the best ever FIFA U-17 World Cup in October, the Punch newspaper reported.Ndanusa was speaking at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa in Abuja during the unveiling ceremony of the Nigeria 2009 emblem.
He said after his inspection of the cities bidding to host the event he was convinced that the country would stage a befitting event.
"It is unfortunate that some of these states are not ready now but I am sure we'll just be okay and FIFA will be proud of us at the end of the day," the NSC boss said.
According to him, Nigeria's federal government is fully behind host the championship, adding that he had charged the officials of the Nigeria Football Federation to present a team that can successfully defend the title Nigeria won two years ago in South Korea.
