China willing to assist S. Africa in hosting FIFA World Cup

BEIJING, Nov. 7 (Xinhua) -- China is willing to help South Africa in hosting the 2010 FIFA World Cup, a senior Communist Party of China (CPC) official said here on Friday.
Liu Qi, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, made the remarks during a meeting with Mathews Phosa, the treasurer general of the African National Congress of South Africa (ANC)
Phosa congratulated China on the success of the Beijing Olympics and said he hoped to use China's successful experience as a reference in the hosting of the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
Liu, also secretary of the CPC Beijing Municipal Committee, appreciated the ANC's efforts to strengthen relations between the two parties and the two countries.
Briefing Phosa on China's Olympics experience, Liu said the games not only achieved sporting success but created spiritual and material benefits.
As to the spiritual aspect, he said the game popularized the Olympic spirit among Chinese people and enhanced understanding between Chinese people and the people of the world.
"The infrastructure construction of the Olympic games laid a good foundation for urban development and people's livelihood," he added.
