Brazil faces strong foes in Confederations Cup

RIO DE JANEIRO, Nov. 22 (Xinhua) -- Defending champions Brazil face tough opponents in their 2009 Confederations Cup campaign after the draw was made on Saturday in Johannesburg.

Brazil were drawn in Group B alongside World Cup champions Italy, African Cup champions Egypt and the United States. South Africa, Spain, Iraq and New Zealand are in Group A.

The toughest group match for Brazil will be against Italy in the last round of play on June 21.

In a preview of the matchup, Brazil and Italy will square off in London on February 10, 2009.

The eighth edition of the Confederations Cup will take place on June 14-28 in South Africa.

Joel Santana, a Brazilian native coaching the South Africans, will open the tournament when South Africa take on Iraq, which are also coached by a Brazilian, Jorvan Vieira.

Brazil has won the Confederation Cup twice in 1997 and 2005.
