Beckham dropped while Mancienne gets surprise England call

LONDON, Nov. 16 (Xinhua) -- David Beckham has been left out of England squad for Wednesday's Germany friendly in Berlin while Chelsea defender Michael Mancienne was handed a surprise call-up.

Beckham, 33, could have equaled Bobby Moore's tally of 108 caps but England Fabio Capello has made it clear he will only pick players who are playing regularly.

The LA Galaxy midfielder has not played since the Major League Soccer season finished on 26 October.

The 20-year-old Mancienne, currently on loan at Championship leaders Wolves, joins Tottenham striker Darren Bent on the 23-man list.

Manchester United pair Wayne Rooney and Rio Ferdinand are absent with calf and back injuries, respectively.

But Ferdinand's England centre-back partner John Terry is included despite picking up an injury during the Chelsea's 3-0 win at West Brom on Saturday.

Mancienne, who joined Wolves on a three-month loan deal in October, said the call-up had been unexpected.

"It's a great honour," he told Wolves's website: "I was expecting to join up with the under-21 and my head was focused on that but this is obviously great news.

"It's a great game to be picked for and just to be in and around the squad will be superb."

Uncapped Aston Villa duo Gabriel Agbonlahor and Curtis Davies join Mancienne in a youthful England setup.
