Argentine boxer equals title defence record

BUENOS AIRES, Feb. 8 (Xinhua) -- Argentine boxer Omar Narvaez equaled on Sunday the record on successful defence of the world fly title of the World Organization of Boxing (WOB) after defeating U.S. Rayonta Whithfield with a knockout.

The fight took place in the city of Puerto Madryn in the Argentine province of Chubut, south of the country, Naravez completed with this its 15th consecutive defence.

In this way, he surpassed the mythical Carlos Monzon, considered the best Argentine boxer in the history.

Naravez, 33, won by knockout in the 10th round of the bout in front of some 6,000 people in the Aurinegro Palace.

With this triumph, he has added 29 triumphs (18 by knockout), while his rival lost the unbeatable and now it has 22 triumphs (11before the limit) and one defeat.

Monzon retired in 1977 after he had won his 14th consecutive fight before Colombian Rodrigo Valdes.

Monzon was killed in a car accident on Jan. 8, 1995.

Ugandan boxer prepares for title fight

KAMPALA, Feb. 4 (Xinhua) -- Universal Boxing Organization (UBO) light welterweight champion Peter Boyz Boyz Semo will challenge for another world title in April when he takes on Italy's Brunet Zamora in Venezia.

The Ugandan boxer will take on the Cuba-born World Boxing Association Inter-Continental light welterweight champion on April17 in his first world title attempt this boxing season.

"Our team is in camp and preparing for this fight as we need tostart the season with a win," Eddie Bazira, Semo's manager and promoter, was quoted by New Vision on Wednesday as saying.

Semo is returning to the ring four months after retaining his UBO title at Lugogo in Kampala.

The Stockholm-based pugilist's record stands at (19-3-0, 14 KOs). Zamora is also a highly-rated fighter who is undefeated in sixteen fights with a record of (16-0-0, 7 KOS).

Meanwhile, former International Boxing Federation (IBF) junior middleweight champion Kassim, The Dream Ouma, is eyeing a title shot against World Boxing Organization/North American Boxing Organization light middleweight champion James Kirkland.

The Florida-based Ugandan fighter has expressed interest in facing the undefeated champion and is eager that his promoters put the fight on card.

Ouma last fought in October 2008 against journeyman Martinus Clay, registering an impressive sixth round knockout to improve his record to (26-5-1, 16 KOS).
